Mt. Adams and the Lunch Counter
An afternoon shot shows a few of the tents spread out on the Lunch Counter at the base of the upper climb. (Ours was the bright red one.)
Back in my youth, we celebrated birthday number 35. (Note, this doesn't include the day of my birth as a "birthday" else it would be birthday number 36. I've found this type of reasoning tends to confuse those who don't start counting at zero.) While sitting at the North Bend Bar and Grill she saw the look on my face that said, "OH CRAP! I'M GONNA TURN 40! SOMEDAY!" So she asked what I wanted to do before I crested that hill.
"I don't know."
"Come on. Let's figure something out and we'll make it happen."
"Uh… how about all the volcanos in Washington? That'd be Rainier, Baker, Adams, Helens, Glacier, and Olympus."
"Ok. Let's do it!"
(Yes, I now know Olympus isn't a volcano, which is a good thing, since there's no way it would have fit in the five year plan.)
With the bucket list completed, I can gracelessly turn 40 and only have a mild mid-life crisis. I better start working on something before I get truly old in 10 more years.
- Mt. Adams (12,276 feet) - August 14-16, 2009
- Mt. St. Helens (8,333 feet) - April 25, 2010
- Mt. Rainier (14,411 feet) - June 25-27, 2010
- Mt. Baker (10,781 feet) - July 23-24, 2011
- Glacier Peak (10,520 feet) - August 16 - 19, 2012
So what's next? Oh... I don't know.
