Just a week ago I was stoked when my kids wanted to go for a walk after school. It made my day when they said they wanted to do it every week. But come on, they're kids. I'm an adult* and I say things that I don't really mean. Oh well. It was a nice dream.
Except it wasn't just a dream! Friday night Lilly asked to hike on Saturday as long as the weather wasn't too horrible. Saturday morning came chilly, but mostly clear so we headed up into the woods. Just like our last afterwork hike this wasn't an epic summit climb. It was just a three mile loop through second growth forest with duffy trails and a grand total of zero other people.
Ok, that's not strictly speaking true. We did see two people way across a lake and we could see approximately ONE BILLION people atop a local hiking hotspot. We didn't see anyone until we were literally back at the car.
So that meant Lilly walked Treen and she (Treen) got to go swimming while she (Lilly) took pictures. There were trails everywhere, signs of mountain bikes, cairns, and even some wacky trail art. No, it wasn't wilderness, but it was a great way to spend an hour.
Now I'm hoping we do it again this coming weekend. Eventually, it'll become a habit. 21 times? No, not really. How about 66 times? Maybe. Whatever it is, I'll keep taking the kids out until they're hopelessly addicted. I could use the company.
* I'm totally not an adult.
