It's 2012! To get the year started right we went hiking. Duh. Come on. It shouldn't be a surprise. Not after the last four years of New Year's Day hikes. Or the fact that I occasionally post pictures from a mild mannered walk in the woods.
And we weren't the only ones. There were a bunch of other crazy people out on the trail. Even though it's a new trail system with some portions still closed. Evans Creek Preserve used to be a farm, or so the story goes. We toured around, mostly looking for snowy owls that are supposed to be infesting our region, but to no avail. Instead, we explored a portion of the trails, crossed a bunch of little bridges and one big boardwalk, had snacks, and tried to make the kids as tired as we were.
Needless to say, we didn't succeed in the least. They were still bouncing around with the energy of someone that hadn't stayed up way too late.
So I took them home and locked them in their rooms so I could have a nap.
Or I would have had we not opted for non-locking rooms for the kids. Bad planning. That's some home improvement I could get behind.
Maybe next year.
