Lilly hits the trail

Lilly and the waterfall

The first week of Lilly's life was full of lousy weather and a hiking buddy (aka me) with pneumonia. The second week found us with better weather, but so much to do there wasn't an hour to spare.

Yesterday, I snuck off with Clara and Tokul to wander up to the overlook. At a mile and a half for the round trip it's a goodly hike for Clara, though I did carry her for part of the way this time. I had planned to put Clara down for a nap after the hike, which did happen, and take Lilly and Tokul all the way up to the falls, but that didn't happen. Dang.

Today, however, as soon as Clara went down for her nap and Lilly had a full belly I reaquainted myself with the front-pack and headed up the trail. Sadly, the front-pack is still woefully inadequate for real hiking. It rides up in the back and digs in at the shoulders, but with only about eight pounds of baby and gear it wasn't too bad.

Clara was 16 days old when she made her first foray up the trail so the title of "Youngest Soltys Hiker Ever" goes to Lillian.

Tokul was thrilled to get outside for the second time in two days. She behaved herself quite well so she got a long dip in the river just upstream from the trailhead. Of course, that meant she got a toweling when we got home, but she tolerated that reasonably well.

Lilly woke up once we were back at the house, but was content to just lay around for a while. Happily, I got to do the same... at least until Clara woke up.
