Mt. Kent in the distance
The ragged peaks of Mt. Kent remains covered in snow late into the year as it stands watch over the South Fork valley.
On the last day of Nicole and Martin's visit (Nicole is Amy's sister) John led a party of five up the slopes of Mt. Gardner. The hike is really just a road-walk with but 1,000 feet of gain over three miles. Of course, without snowshoes more than a couple of inches makes it difficult.
John did have his shoes which all three of the human hikers used to great advantage. Unfortunately, when not wearing the load-distributors the other two suffered a post-holing experience which quickly wore them out. With time running short and the appearance of a nasty storm making its way east the three corralled the dogs and headed back down.
