The work I do is mostly preventative. I look for problems before they happen and help people avoid those problems if they can or reduce the impact if they can't. That means I'm not on-call and I don't usually work crazy hours.
But sometimes one of those problems causes a big impact and I have to help contain, eradicate, recover, and learn from the incident. (Shout out to all my PICERL fans out there!) Needless to say, that's what happened right after this fun little adventure. My adventure time was dramatically reduced as my life was split between working and sleeping.
It wasn't for two weeks that I could even get away for a short, early morning walk with the dog. And it would be a month before I was able to take an entire day off and be off-grid. (Or as off-grid as I ever am with multiple satellite communication devices.)
So here's a couple of pictures from that first month's shorties. One of the early lessons learned from this experience is that I can get to some pretty awesome places pretty darn quickly. Also: If you fall in a creek don't keep going when you know the way is going to be an absolute disaster of alder and vine maples.
