Never let getting to your destination interfere with having a good time

Too much sepia
Or just too much time on a cloudy night near the night skiing?
The first attempt at our annual Solstice party at Hyak Lake was foiled before I even got to the trailhead. The advance party turned back from the wooded route because there wasn't enough snow. That's quite a change from just a week before when we were concerned there would be too much snow.
Our second attempt via the same route we used two weeks earlier ended about half way up the slopes. It wasn't too hard or too far, but given it was completely dark we could sit in the snow right where we were and have as good a time as if we'd continued to the lake. Plus, we'd be able to get a proper meal at the local pub.
One of the reasons I enjoy adventuring with the people I do is we have the same priorities. Safety first, fun second, destinations if everything else works out. Finding the right group of adventure partners is hard. When you find them don't let go.
