One of these days I'll realize there's better things to do than hike in the rain. Especially hiking in the rain in a couple feet of snow.
This time it was Mount Washington. It's just up the street and relatively safe when avalanche conditions aren't favorable. It had snowed over night, but warmed up in the early morning. The snow was sloppy and wet. Then it started raining making it that much more enjoyable.
Nonetheless, faithful Treen and I climbed higher and higher. I foolishly kept expecting the rain would turn to snow and we'd be in a winter wonderland. No such luck. It kept raining all the way to the summit and all the way down. Even fully protected by Gore-Tex I was drenched.
Of course, Treen didn't care. She'd rather be outside than inside no matter the conditions. She knows that the only thing worse than a hike in the rain in a couple of feet of snow is not hiking at all.
She's a smart dog. She's smarter than I am.
