Point Reyes National Seashore is... colorful and dark

Where art thou, sun?
Yeah, I know. You waited as long as you could.
From Rosie the Riveter in Richmond we put the pedal to the metal in an effort to get to Point Reyes National Seashore before dark. 40 miles, much of it on two lane, twisty turny roads. We made it. Barely. Kind of.
The sun had officially set as we crested the last hill and could see the ocean. The sky was still lit orange so I guess we did make it before it was completely dark, but it wasn't what we'd hoped for.
In spite of the deepening darkness we walked the quarter mile from the parking lot to the beach. The sand was deep, but strangely warm. Almost like you could walk barefoot... so we did. In November! As the color drained from the sky we ambled along the beach before returning to the car in complete darkness.
What we did see of Point Reyes has me eager to return when we can spend time exploring more than just the beach. Besides, we didn't get our passport stamp so we have to go back.
