Cave Ridge is a regular on the Thursday night hiking schedule. It took a while to figure out how we'd climb it without repeating an approach we use for two other climbs. Once we'd found a better route (through the Commonwealth Basin) it's been more a setting than an adventure of its own.
Even though the weather wasn't forecast to be great, I took the big camera up. It's heavy, but I figured I'd get some pictures of Treen for TurboPup and maybe a few good mountain shots if the clouds cleared at all.
The problem with such a plan is that it requires some cooperation. Needless to say, I received very little cooperation.
The clouds kept the usually grand views at bay. Only a few sneak peaks of Red Mountain and Mount Thomson. Worse, the west was socked in. There would be no spectacular sunset this night.
I had no kids with me so they weren't going to be subjects or trouble. As photogenic as the other TNAB hikers are they aren't my usual thing.
That left Treen. I should be able to get a few pics, right? Hmph. W.C. Fields said, "Never work with animals or children." I need to listen to my elders. In the end I did get a few shots, but Treen was clearly not interested in being on the catwalk.
I'd love to say I've learned my lesson and I won't be taking pictures of the kids or the dog or the mountains or lakes or anything else, but nope. I'm not that smart. I'll keep trying and sometimes they'll come out ok, but I'll probably still be deleting more photos than I keep.
