It's the day after Thanksgiving. All the tryptophan has worn off an everyone's a little cagey. What better way to burn some energy than on a hike? Of course, what a great idea!
Portland is full of wacky little hills and trails. Close by was Kelly Butte so 10 minutes from Grams' and we were there.
Walk up a closed, leaf covered road to the old parking lot near the top. Pass by a busted gate, past the abandoned shopping cart, and into the woods.
There are lots and lots of trails, so we followed the ones that went more up than down. At the top we found partial views and a benchmark, then down to a water tank. Then back up the way we'd come to the summit, down a side trail that led into someone's back yard.
Tokul was by far the happiest of all of us. She was just thrilled to be out of the house. Poor puppy doesn't get to go out that much anymore. This was just perfect for her at a mere mile and a half and 350 feet of total gain.
Too bad the rest of us were still itching to go farther and higher. Maybe next time.
