Snow

These long, dark months of winter have been hard. They always are. There have been splashes of sun, but mostly it's been gray, cold, and wet. May marks the first the magic months when the snow consolidates and the sun is actually warm enough you want to sit down for a glissade. We'll get to those adventures in the next couple of posts. In this post, we start with...

A quick trip up Margaret made just a little less quick because the road still wasn't quite open much to the dismay of the out-of-towners that are used to coming to Washington, renting trucks, and driving into the woods to drink, shoot, and wreak havoc. I was prepared (of course) with snowshoes and a light winter kit. But not just any snowshoes. These were converted kids' 'shoes. Less floatation and lighter weight, the only problem was the straps weren't big enough for my feet. Behold the Voile ski strap! I won't lie; it took me a long time to figure how to get them oriented, but now they're great.

And lots of bike riding. The Palouse to Cascades Trail (at least on paper) runs across Washington from east to west terminating near home. Of course it has become a project to ride all the lengths available. We knocked off about 56 miles leaving us only two more day's worth. Since they're in the dry and hot part of the state, we'll save those until winter.

Tink and I continued our stretch of trying to drive down roads that weren't free of snow and had some bonus mileage to get to Lake Lillian, but she was worth it. (She always is)

The boy wanted to take his special friend to the snow and my first thought was questionable. I sacrificed and checked it out in the morning. Good thing. It was less questionable and more nope. (We went somewhere better in the afternoon.)

And that was May. Well, except the adventures that get their own posts. Oh, wait. The end of the month was marred by Lilly's departure for a month in Spain! Dios mío! When will we see her again? (BTS: I'm writing this post from Alicante after Mrs. Moosefish and I arrived to visit.)

📍 On the lands of the Snoqualmie, Wenatchi, and Yakama peoples.
