Looks like fun, huh?

Seasons are flexible in the mountains. Winter brings snow, sure. But so does spring. If it's a good summer, we'll get snow then, too. (And for good measure, it's not a good fall unless we end up knee deep in the white stuff.) And then spring is when the snow stops falling and the sun comes out. Or it rains. Or maybe snows a little more. Hard to say.

The point is that we went for a walk in April and packed traction, snowshoes, and avalanche gear. Also: rain jackets, waterproof packs (have I mentioned the wonders of the Deuter Durascents?), and dry layers. So we were prepared.

What'd we find? Dry trail to the creek valley, rock-hard snow/ice to the headwall, soft snow to the lake. The lake itself was still frozen and buried under 95cm of snow. (Yeah. We did SCIENCE!, too.)

At least the road is open to the trailhead.

📍On the lands of the Snoqualmie people.
