Just off Highway 101 near Garibaldi in Oregon are the Three Graces. Three big pillars of rock that jut out of water close enough to shore their pools are exposed at low tide. I avoided assigning one rock to each child, but it was hard not to.
We poked around and scrambled over rocks encrusted with barnacles in search of the wonders of the sea. It took a bit of work, but on the far side we found little grottos full of sea stars and anemones. And we didn't fall in even once!
It's a perfect stop at low tide.
Pro-tip: Wear good, closed-toe shoes and bring tough gloves.
