The views were limited, but the smoke from the week before was gone thanks to the rain so it was just fog. Or clouds. Or mist. Whatever. It was plenty wet even if it wasn't actually raining.
We found a couple patches of snow, always welcome during summer, and made it to our destination. It wasn't a peak, but it was a named pass so that was good. In better weather, the next peak along the ridge can be climbed, but nobody was there today. Plus, we're not exactly climbers in that way. Maybe someday, but...
We descended into the gray, hopping from rock to rock. Down seemed more perilous than up, but there were only a few slips. The route was surprisingly easy to follow for an unofficial, unmaintained trail. Of course, when you're in a narrow valley with high cliffs it's not like you can get too lost.
Next time I come back, I'll try harder to go even farther off the beaten track. There's still a lot of terrain I haven't seen in this area and I continue to be super excited by the possibilities.
