Clouds can do some pretty amazing things. Like make a rainbow. Shield us from the sun. Be home to unicorns. But when they are too low they kinda make it hard to figure out where we're going.
As an example, I tried a new route to one of my favorite springtime places. (Yes, even though it's technically summer.) The first part went ok because we were well below the clouds. After crossing the lake and starting the main climb, the way faded away.
The clouds sat on the upper slopes. I guessed wrong and wound up in the wrong gully. I still made the ridge, but those scratches on my legs will last a while. Tink, of course, didn't care. We got our summit (I think, it was hard to tell in the cloud) and descended. So did the mist.
I've followed this trail many times before, but with the thick clouds and deep snow I had to check my GPS to make sure I was not going to be cliffed out.
Once we were down in the basin we made great time back to the lake and then the car. We didn't get to see the amazing views we usually do, but at least it didn't rain.
