Heck, the wood on the bridge still had bark and twigs!
What a confusing time. Memorial Day Weekend is supposed to be the beginning of the hiking season. When there's good weather the trails are packed. Well, we had great weather, but no people. Why do you think that was?
That's right! We went where they weren't. On purpose.
A lot of the places I go aren't crowded. Most people are smarter than I am and they don't go to to those places. This time it was intentional. The people we did encounter near the trailhead on the way back were frightened of us just like we were of them. Stupid virus.
The boy and I accompanied the dog up a wild valley that's not yet ready for prime time. The trail grew narrow and muddy. A massive washout obliterated the trail, but the water wasn't running high so we found our way across. We ended at the Big Tree. It was indeed big and a tree so +1 for accuracy. The way home was an easy walk back the way we came.
As far as a normal Memorial Day Weekend, this was anything but. However, it wa a nice walk and a chance to be out of the house.
