As much as we love snow, sometimes it's ok to seek a dry trail. Especially when the avalanche danger creeps into the red or... the black. So over the river, through the woods, over the mountains, and into the desert we went.
We found the sun for sure. But it was not alone. The sun brought its friend the wind. The wind brought its friend the clouds and, of course, the clouds brought their friend the rain. You know that saying? "The friend of my friend of my friend of my friend is not my friend." Yeah. That one.
So while we had sunshine and it was lovely, we also had rain driven by 40 mph wind and it was not quite so lovely. There have been a few days on mountains with this kind of weather, but not many. It was truly wonderful. At least it was all downhill.
By the time we were back at the trailhead the rain was no longer being blown horizontally, but was still heavy. We dried off and no sooner than we started the car did the first snowflakes fall.
I guess we should have known better than to think we could get spring in winter. Instead, we got each and every type of weather thrown at us. Maybe next time we'll stay true to the season. Or maybe next time we'll do the same thing because as much as that friend of a friend of a friend of a friend is a jerk, it made for a good adventure.
