The Project Part One: Up from the down

This is my waterfall

Here's the deal. I have favorite places. I go to visit them a lot. Except when the snow blocks the road. And those are the times I really want to be there. It's not fair.

So... I wonder if there's another way to get there. So was born, "The Project." (Hare-brained schemes are best when they have silly names. And yes, it's "hare" as in a rabbit because apparently they do ill-conceived things.) And like any good project it's not something that can be done all at once. That'd be just a trip.

For our first attempt we started down low in the valley. This is an area that will be accessible all year round so it's likely where we'll start when the snow piles up. Tink and I followed an old road along the river that turned into a trail. A few miles in we found a creek that crossed the trail. This creek was exactly what we were looking for since it flows out of the lakes in our favorite place.

The first section was full of devil's club, downed trees, and crumbling creek banks. The best of times. After that it got steep. Really steep. As I said, the best of times. As we climbed the sound of the creek to our left got louder and louder. It ceased being a creek and became a waterfall. A really loud, sweet sounding waterfall.

Tink had no problem getting down to the falls. I was a little more cautious and picked my way down to the water. By the time I got my boots near the water Tinkham was completely soaked and thoroughly stoked on this adventure.

We climbed a bit higher and found another waterfall. This one wasn't as impressive as the first, but was a good spot to turn around. We retreated down to the trail and explored further along the trail a bit before returning.

We've got quite a bit more to do to complete this project, but it definitely looks like this route will go. Next time, we'll try from the top. Will it connect? Stay tuned...
