Note to self: When the weather really, really, really sucks, just stay home

Good weather? Bad weather? Terrible weather? No worries. I'll adventure no matter what. I take great pride in not being scared away by conditions. I'm not necessarily a fan of it all, but I can take the rain and the heat and the dark and whatever else is thrown at us.

That's great, right? It means I get out all the time. It's only a problem when I really should have stayed home. Like on this night. Sure, it was Thursday and we were supposed to hike, but dang, we should have stayed home.

Only two of us showed up. Everyone else was smarter. It was pitch black when we left the car and pouring rain. The plan was to traverse about a mile to a set of small lakes, then climb a steep, overgrown trail to the PCT. We made it to the lakes.

"This sucks."

"Yeah."

"Let's get dinner."

"Yeah."

I won't pretend I've changed my ways and learned a lesson. I'll still go out in the bad weather, but maybe I'll be smart enough to turn around and head to the bar.
