Another sunset from the top of a mountain after work because Bandera always delivers

Obsessed

Wait a minute. Wasn't I just raving about the first after work sunset hike of the year? Yes I was. But that was last week and this is Bandera. And Bandera always delivers a sunset. (That's technically not true, but hyperbole is all the rage so we'll go with it.)

Even better than last week on Mt. Washington, Bandera features a big, open slope from which to enjoy the sunset. The downside is that until the snow is off that slope there's a risk of avalanche. In fact, that's why we adjusted the schedule to give the snow a week of extra time to consolidate and/or melt off. It worked. We had a dry climb for the steepest part that's more like the worst stairs ever than a trail.

From the top there was snow for playing and maybe a little eating and definitely for making pictures look even cooler. Where we could, there was even enough snow for plunge-stepping on the way down.

And if all that wasn't enough, Bandera holds a special place in my heart as the first hike I did with this crazy group of Thursday night hikers called TNAB. It was 12 seasons ago, but I remember it like it was yesterday. Or at least I remember how lousy the weather was and yet I came back.

Because in the end, TNAB, like Bandera, always delivers.

(And if you thought TNAB was all sunsets and mountain tops, here's what most of the hikes look like. At least it wasn't raining.)
