First after work sunset from a mountain summit of the year!

Sure sign of spring

One of the joys of hiking after work is getting to see the sun set from the summit. It seems like it's far more magical after climbing for a couple of hours. You stand there drenched in sweat, swatting mosquitoes, and already thinking about the hike down. Then for a few moments the sky turns orange and red and slowly fades to gray.

We don't always get sunsets. It seems more often than not it's cloudy or rainy or snowy or a combination of all the bad things that could block out the sun. When we do get a sunset it's awesome. Double bonus when the Mountain is on display and the snow is firm enough to support our footsteps even in the late afternoon.

It was a good night to be on the mountain and a great night to watch a sunset. Even better when I realize this was just the first of the season and there's months more to come.
