It's round about this time of year that many of us start thinking about what we have to be thankful for. Me? I can't believe how lucky I am. Great family, great friends, great adventures, great job... You get the picture.

Instead of typing, "great" one more time (dang, just did it) let me tell you one way I was lucky enough to share my bounty with others.

A friend wanted to organize a backpacking trip and asked for a recommendation. I'm blessed enough to get out for an adventure about 100 times a year so I had a couple of suggestions. I laid it all out for her and promptly forgot about it. Fast forward four months and this is part of an email I got from her.

Thank you so much for your recommendation for a backpacking trip with my friends. Five of us went this weekend and it was wonderful!

We scrambled up to the rock above that campsite for sunset, and caught the most wonderful views of Rainier. One friend cried because it was so beautiful.

Anyways, I can't thank you enough for recommendation. Our trip was perfect!

Wow. I made someone cry. Well. Not me. The sunset. But I at least helped them see that sunset. Now I feel like I might cry. Seriously.

I'm thankful I've had the chance to explore and find places that are worth recommending. I'm thankful I have friends and family that are interested in going to those same places and they trust me enough to ask where they should spend their precious time in the mountains. I'm especially thankful there were people that came before me to preserve these special places for me, my friends and family, and generations to come.
