And finally... snow
December 2, 2005
The weatherfolks were promising snow, but there was very little snow. Each day we'd wake to green grass rather than the feet of snow we were promised. Until...

Humpback Mountain
December 1, 2005
Four hours ought to be enough to make a sincere attempt on Humpback Mountain, right? It's only 5,000 feet high and you can just about drive to the top.

Melakwa Lake... trailhead
November 12, 2005
Snow off Exit 38? The road traversed instead of climbing so we stayed a few hundred feet below it. Exit 42? Nope, nothing there. How about Denny Creek? Finally, I found snow for Clara.

Another trip up to Lake Lillian, but it was just a stopping point on the way up to the Rampart Lakes on the other side of the ridge.

Lake Lillian and Lake Laura
September 13, 2005
Brilliant weather and I'm working from home. Typical. Just enough to tease me all day long. I resisted the urge to work in the hammock, but couldn't escape the lure of the mountains.

Cle Elum River
July 31, 2005
Camping has changed forever, or at least the next few years, now that we've got two little ones to keep track of. It's a good thing there are two of us or we'd have been sunk.

Granite Mountain
July 23, 2005
The weather is too nice to be inside, but the girls aren't ready for something strenuous. I could go with just Tokul, but human companionship is a good thing, right? How about one of the Mommy Group daddies? He might not be up for it, but his wife volunteered him. SUCKER!

Mt. Kent

"Has it come to this? We don't do hikes on trails anymore?" Well, not really, but this seemed like a great way to escape the crowds on the July 4 weekend.

A waterfall, two girls, a dog, and me
June 24, 2005
They said it couldn't be done... well they said it shouldn't be done anyway. But why not? One on the front, one on the back, Tokul walks herself, it's only three and a half miles and 500 feet of gain to the waterfall, and the 50 pounds of kids and gear is no more than I'll carry next weekend on the PCT. Woo hoo!

Weeks Falls
June 4, 2005
The trail is only a quarter mile long, but that was plenty of distance for Clara to do two face plants in the mud and Lilly to yurp a couple of times. My issues? I parked three quarters of a mile from the trailhead because it looked like there was a longer trail. Tokul did fine, though.

What the heck is a tokul anyway?
Officially, she's Delphi's Moosefish Tokul, CGC. She's an AKC-registered yellow labrador retriever born March 26, 2000. (That makes her old). She joined the young moosefish household just after we moved to North Bend.
She's named after Tokul Creek, the last tributary to the Snoqualmie River below Snoqualmie Falls. "Tokul" means "very dark in color," but we didn't know that. Oh well.
