Survivors

Aura was born on February 25. Lex on the 28th. Their mommies (and Amy, among others) were in the same afterbirth... uh... new mommy class and they bonded. When planning a get together it's often more important to make sure Aura, Lex, and Clara are available than making sure their fathers are around. Since all three had openings in their calendars the Pine Lake Athletic Club was booked and the pizza ordered.

We arrived stunningly on time. I had the pleasure of explaining the crutches over and over and over again. Clara was a bit reluctant to join in as we entered the gym, but after seeing Lilly and Amy on the gym floor she popped her thumb out and started running around.

The coordinator (only on the Plateau would a party have a "coordinator") had the kids line up on one end of the gym and be dogs or cats or snakes the length of the gym. The three year olds did a great job following instructions. Leo, Aura's younger brother at a year and a half, took to just running back and forth. Lilly just sat and watched the older kids fly by.

After the guided play the kids were released to cause as much trouble as they could. Basketballs flew through the air with little guidance. Kids slid by on scooters. Some kids just ran into the walls for fun.

After a brief interlude with a parachute and a bunch of wiffle balls the kids were herded out of the gym and into the party room. The older kids got pizza while the younger got whatever their parents thought to bring for them. The parents snagged pizza when the kids weren't looking and tried to look more dignified stuffing their faces than the kids did.

The party ended with an orange balloon tied to Clara's wrist, a couple of swanky party bags, and another offer for me to ride the elevator down to the main floor. The balloons and bags were great. The offered elevator wasn't.
