I shoulda thought of this years ago

For the last two years (2003, 2004) we've been getting our pumpkins at Fall City Farms. With only a week to go we found a hole in our collective schedules and planned to meet late Sunday morning rain or shine.

Freakishly, we all arrived at about the same time. Fall City Farms is like a hole in time-space. We rarely manage to all get to the same place within the same hour, but each year at the Farm nobody gets out of the parking lot before everyone else has arrived.

Our expedition headed into the fields. Six adults and six kids, two carts, rain jackets all around (needlessly), and more cameras than we could possibly hope to use. Given the plethora of photos being shot (by us and other groups) it seemed like it'd be a better plan to charge by the photo rather than the pound.

The kids had a great time running around in the field, though they felt bad for the pumpkins that were looking a little sad. We did find a couple of perfect pumpkins that we hauled out. Daryl and Joey chose theirs from the pre-picked selection next to the cash register, though I think Daryl favored gourds more than pumpkins. We all munched on the little donuts and the toddlers drank fresh apple juice.

Next up on the list of traditional Halloweeny activities is an attempt to engage Clara in carving the pumpkins. This usually results in her flinging pumpkin guts on the walls and deciding she doesn't like pumpkins any longer. That usually lasts about a year so look for another trip to the Farm next October.
