Suddenly: Snow
Because we love snow.
My home trail is where I know every rock and root. I know where Daddy's Step used to be, where Tokul's Pool will forever be, and the locations of a hundred mini adventures with the kids when this was a big adventure. It was the first hike for each of the kids and both of the dogs. It was Tokul's last hike.
My home trail is so popular I tend to avoid it in the summer. Or I go early mornings or late evenings when the crowds thin. In spring and fall the crowds are only on nice days. In winter the crowds are non-existent.
I hadn't been on the trail since mid-June when it was amazingly hot. Now there's snow. So much can change and yet stay the same. There are other trails that are more exciting and more epic, but this will always be my home trail.
