Since January the girls have been going to ballet class once a week with few exceptions. It's only 15 or so hours of instructions, but the girls made the most of it and did a lot of extra practicing at home. Even Henry and I know how to chassČ and we're pretty good at it, too.
Friday was the dress rehearsal that was really helpful for Lilly to get over the idea of being on stage. Plus I was able to shoot pictures and video as a backup to failure during the actual recital.
Saturday was the big day and we rested up in the morning before heading to the theatre (aka: Mt. Si. High School) for the show. After depositing the girls backstage I fought for place in line so I'd be prepared to rush the theatre when the doors opened. I had to save 14 seats, which didn't go over well since it was literally standing-room only for quite a while before all our sitters were in place.
Lilly's music was Star Wars and I found myself humming along. Her class isn't quite beyond the "watch the teacher performing offstage and do what she does" phase, but some of them (including Lilly) seem to be getting close.
Clara, on the other hand, had no stage direction and there weren't any moments of confusion. I guess those two extra years have made a big difference. Her dance was much more artsy and graceful than Lilly's.
Afterward we had the usual cookies and juice party in the cafeteria before retiring to our house for a family dinner.
Now we've moved on to swim lessons, but another round of ballet is surely in our future.
